Alex Loh - Japan

Alex_Loh.png

My name is Alex Loh. I’m an Australian citizen with an Asian background. I had travelled a fair bit for my education, and studied in Malaysia, Singapore, UK, USA, and Australia. I currently possess a Master in Counselling Psychology degree, and am working self-employed as a psychologist. I completed a Certificate in Christian Discipleship and a Certificate in Biblical Studies in the past. At present, I’m doing a Certificate IV in Ministry part-time through the Alphacrucis College.

I was saved at 20 years of age, and am a Bible-believing and Spirit-filled Christian. I am very much involved in my local ACC church, Enjoy Church East Campus – my current areas of service include: trust (finances), hospitality, food, greeters, men’s, prayer, and pastoral care. I had previously done media, kids, youth, led a men’s life group, and helped out with a church plant. I had also been on a few short-term missions trips in the past, with the most recent one as part of the Enjoy Church team to Japan in 2012.

I have visited Japan for holidays 10 times in total, and travelled extensively throughout the Japanese Archipalego (current tally: 30 cities/towns from Hokkaido through to Okinawa). I love the Japanese culture: language, food, music, animation, lifestyle and people, and feel very much at home in Japan. My heart is for the spiritual poverty and emotional brokenness in the Japanese society and culture. I want to use both my professional and ministry skills and experience to be involved in the restoration of Japanese people’s relationships with God and one another.

Initially, I am being sent out with the backing of my home church and senior pastors, Ps Shane & Georgie Baxter, for a 3-month term. My initial 3 months’ service will be with ACCI Missions under the covering of long-term ACCI Missionaries, Alastair and Marlene Paterson, Senior Pastors of Hakata New Life Church. Thereafter, I shall return to Melbourne for the next few months, which will allow for time to refine my long-term vision, believing that God has called me to establish a church and eventually a school in Saitama, Japan.
